Radiation therapy is the use of high energy x-rays or other particles to destroy cancer cells. The popular radiation therapy used to treat NPC is called external-beam radiation therapy which is radiation from a machine aim outside the body at the tumor. External radiation therapy have two methods that are intensity-modulated radiation therapy (allows more effective doses of radiation therapy to be delivered while reducing the damage to healthy cells and causing fewer side effects) and proton therapy (used proton rather than x-ray to destroy cancer cell).

Systematic chemotherapy is delivered through the bloodstream to reach cancer cells throughout the body. Another ways to give chemotherapy include and intravenous (IV) tube placed into a vein using a needle, in a pill or capsule that is swallowed (orally), or by injection into a muscle, under the skin, or directly into the cancerous tumor.
